Terms and safety

Last updated 25 October 2026

Strand is a free, end-to-end encrypted messenger, currently in beta. By using it you agree to these terms. They're short on purpose.

Using Strand

What's not allowed

Reporting and blocking

In any chat, press and hold a message and choose Report, or long-press the chat in your list. You can block the person at the same time: blocked people can't message you or add you to chats, and aren't told.

Because chats are end-to-end encrypted, nobody can read them unless someone in the chat reports them. A report sends the last messages from the person reported, with your reason. Reports are looked at by the people who run Strand, usually within a few days. Where a report shows a breach of these terms, the account may be disabled or deleted; where it shows a serious crime or a risk to someone's safety, it may be passed to the police. You can ask about a report you made at support@strand.chat.

Your content

What you send is yours. Strand only passes it along, encrypted, and claims no rights to it.

Ending things

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Accounts that break these terms may be disabled or deleted.

No warranty

Strand is provided as it is, without warranty. As far as the law allows, the people who run Strand aren't liable for losses from using it or from it being unavailable. Nothing here limits rights you have by law.
